Melissa Torres, Del Mar College, was chosen to serve as commencement speaker, a rare distinction for a student, highlighting her academic excellence, leadership, and dedication to service.
Torres, a nursing student, brings decades of experience and determination to her academic journey. She previously earned an associate degree in surgical technology and built a career at Driscoll Children鈥檚 Hospital, where she is set to return following graduation as a participant in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit Residency Program.
Her commencement message centered on self-improvement, reflecting the purpose-driven leadership that has defined her career and inspired her to continue her education.
Matelier Numbi, an MBA student at Southern Utah University (SUU), has co-authored two research papers exploring domestic microchip production and the strategic use of artificial intelligence in corporate decision-making.
Beyond his published research, Numbi recently delivered a TEDxSUU talk titled 鈥淭he Invisible Layoff,鈥� examining the ethical and societal implications of AI on today鈥檚 workforce. His work reflects a strong commitment to applied learning and responsible leadership.
An electrical engineering technology graduate, Numbi credits his MBA program for sharpening his critical thinking skills and expanding his strategic perspective. He also serves as fundraiser chair for SUU鈥檚 91桃色 chapter, further demonstrating his dedication to leadership both inside and outside the classroom.
Renota Wade, Colorado Technical University, has been recognized for her extensive expertise and leadership in revenue cycle management within the healthcare industry. With more than two decades of experience, Wade currently serves as revenue cycle manager at Beloved Community Family Wellness Center, where she oversees financial operations and ensures compliance-driven, efficient revenue processes.
Prior to this role, Wade spent nearly a decade at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, leading teams through complex operational challenges and earning recognition from senior leadership for her impact. Her influence extends beyond her organization through service on Colorado Technical University鈥檚 College of Business and Management advisory board.
Wade has also held national leadership roles within professional compliance and healthcare associations and was honored as Officer of the Year during her tenure as vice president of a local AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders) chapter, the world's largest training and credentialing organization for the healthcare space. A recent graduate of Colorado Technical University鈥檚 master鈥檚 program in entrepreneurship, she continues to support community wellness initiatives through her family鈥檚 nonprofit organization as well.
Giulia Cantella, Penn State Harrisburg, was selected as a student marshal for the university鈥檚 fall 2025 commencement ceremony, an honor reserved for graduates who exemplify academic excellence, leadership, and engagement.
A psychology major originally from Milan, Italy, Cantella distinguished herself through extensive involvement in research, service, and global education initiatives. She supported international students as a Global Community Leader and Global Lion Mentor, contributed to intercultural programming as a Global Ambassador, and raised awareness around critical social issues as a Domestic Violence Ambassador.
Cantella also conducted and presented public health research through the Awareness and Community Engagement Lab, won the 2024 Martin Luther King Poster Contest sponsored by the Diversity and Educational Equity Committee, launched an independent research project, and participated in a range of community service initiatives. Her academic achievements, leadership involvement, and consistent placement on the Dean鈥檚 List earned her this distinguished role at commencement.
Angela Myers, University of Michigan鈥揊lint, has received the Maize & Blue Distinguished Scholar Award, the institution鈥檚 highest academic honor for undergraduate students. The award recognizes exceptional academic achievement, leadership, and service.
A health care administration major, Myers balanced her coursework with full-time community service as a community health worker, helping residents navigate insurance options and access critical healthcare resources. Her dedication to serving others while excelling academically stood out to faculty reviewers.
A first-generation college student and single parent, Myers managed multiple jobs alongside her studies, demonstrating resilience and determination throughout her academic journey. She plans to continue serving the Flint community while pursuing a master鈥檚 degree in health care management.
ShaKema Morgan, East Carolina University, has been recognized for leadership in nonprofit management and holistic health advocacy, leading community-based initiatives focused on mental health, postpartum care, and family wellness while continuing doctoral studies in counseling.
Kevin Barber, College of Southern Maryland, was selected as Teacher of the Year for the 2025鈥�26 school year at Sumter Christian School. With nearly a decade of teaching experience, Barber is recognized for his leadership in the classroom, student mentorship, and service in both academic and faith-based communities.
Amanda Shields, Dean College, served as undergraduate commencement speaker, earning recognition for her leadership, communication skills, and campus involvement. A communications major, Shields also contributed to campus athletics as student manager for the baseball team.
Haley Montet, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, was named Outstanding Graduate Finalist for the College of Liberal Arts. A criminal justice major with a 3.96 GPA, Montet completed and defended an Honors Baccalaureate Thesis and presented her research at multiple academic conferences.
Timothy Ness, National Online Chapter, earned placement on the President鈥檚 List at Southern New Hampshire University after achieving a GPA of 3.7 or higher as a full-time undergraduate student.
